Margaret Ellen Welsh died Friday, April 11, 2014, at her home in Williamsburg at the age of 86 years.
Margaret Ellen was born Sept. 14, 1927, near Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of John Michael and Ellen Theresa (Clear) Curry. She graduated from Parnell High School in 1945 and Mary-crest College in Davenport in 1949. After college she worked at Alcoa in Bet-tendorf and later at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.
On Aug. 1, 1953, Margaret Ellen was united in marriage to John James Welsh at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell. The couple made their home on the family farm east of Williamsburg. John died Dec. 17, 1996. Margaret Ellen remained on the farm for three years until moving to Williamsburg.
She worked as a front desk clerk at the Best Western Hotel in Williamsburg for 18 years.
Margaret Ellen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She enjoyed playing bridge and was very involved in her grandchildren's lives.
Margaret Ellen is survived by two sons, Joseph (Christine) Welsh of Viola, Ill., and Daniel Welsh of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Joshua (Jennifer) Welsh of Davenport, Jessica Terry of Veeders-burg, Ind., and John Luke Welsh of Williamsburg; a great-granddaughter, Emily Terry; and a sister, Kathleen (Glenn) Medhus of Moline, Ill.
She was preceded by her parents and husband.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Holbrook. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg, where there will be a prayer service at 2 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Cemetery Fund.
