MARGARET STEELE
Central City
Margaret Steele, formerly of Central City, died at the Woodlands at Meth-Wick Community on May 12, 2014, surrounded by her devoted family. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Central City. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday May 13, at the church, with the rosary beginning at 7. p.m. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Margaret Mae Steele was born March 31, 1922, to George and Anna (Karsten) Helms on a farm near Lamont, Iowa. She graduated from Lamont High School in 1939. She married Leland Steele on Aug. 11, 1942. He passed away in 1964. She retired from the Central City Community Schools in 1997.
She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, watching her children and grandchildren's activities, the Central City Tuesday morning coffee club, Christmas and all other holidays, and traveling, especially her trip to Rome. Margaret served as the scorekeeper for Central City High School basketball for many years. She was also a very active member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Dick) Dearinger, Terry (Barbara) Steele, Mike (Susan) Steele, Pat (Maria) Steele, Becky Steele, Jane (Kerry) Bolt and Jeff (Julie) Steele); grandchildren, Amanda (Phil) Drey, Brent Steele, Kyle Steele, Michelle (Dan) Ketelsen, Matt Steele, Mari (Chad) Wilson, Zach Steele, Valerie (Reid) Jansonius, Mackenzie Bolt, Keaton Bolt, Ryan Steele and Connor Steele; step-grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Andersen; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Carter Drey, Blythe and Ruby Ketelsen, and Maggie and Henry Wilson; and her sister, Mildred Cree.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, sisters and spouses; grandson Bart Steele; and daughter-in-law Linda Steele.
The family would like to thank the Meth-Wick Community, especially the staff and nurses at the Nesetrel Unit, for their loving care of Margaret, and in particular Kelly, Cindy and Dondee. The family also appreciates the care provided by Hospice of Mercy during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Meth-Wick Community or St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
