Margaret Jane Purvis, 79, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Clarence, went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 18, 2014. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Private graveside services will take place, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Arrangements are being handled by Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence.
She was born Dec. 7, 1934, in Scott County to Henry and Hazel (Goodell) Ganzer. She married James Purvis in Rock Island, Ill., on June 13, 1959. He died Dec. 23, 1991.
Margaret worked for years as a waitress in the Quad Cities area, retiring early due to health issues. She did love people and her family and loved being a part of what was going on around her. She was an avid Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
She is survived by a son, James Lee (Mary) Purvis of Lacombe, La.; a daughter, Doris (Terry) Essex of Ada, Ohio; grandchildren, Kristina (Tony) Aldora of St. Marys, Ohio, Jonathon Schindler of Kenton, Ohio, and Ashley Purvis and Catherine Purvis of Lacomble, La.; a great-grandchild, Anthony Aldora of St. Marys, Ohio; brothers, DeVere (Loraine) Ganzer of Eldridge, Dale (Dorothy) Ganzer of Walcott and Ned (Jamie) Ganzer of Wheatland; sisters, Phoebe Rhodes of Monticello and Rosemary Elwood of Ada, Ohio; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter; four brothers, Roland, Willis, Max and Roy; and two sisters, Audrey Elwood and Louise Deke.
