Margaret Marie Graham Pugh, 86, passed away on June 20, 2015, at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, Iowa. She had moved there from Cedar Rapids following the death of her husband of 63 years, Eldon B. Pugh, on March 19, 2015.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Private family burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Lora Reynolds of San Antonio, Texas; son, Greg (Megan) Pugh of West Des Moines; granddaughters, Kelsi and Taylor Pugh; sister-in-law, Virginia Pugh of Cedar Rapids; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon B. Pugh; and son-in-law, John Reynolds.
Margaret was born on June 25, 1928, to Frieda Wieck Graham and John Graham on the family farm near Traer, Iowa. John Graham passed away when Margaret was 18 months old, and her mother married Gus Untiedt. Margaret graduated from Traer High School at the age of 16 in 1945 and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1949 with a B.A. in business. She met Eldon at Coe, where they were both members of the concert band, and they were married in 1951.
Margaret taught school and did clerical work following college. After her children were born, she became a stay-at-home mom. She was active in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority alumni group and was a member of PEO. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to several bridge groups. Margaret and Eldon were members of First Congregational Church for more than 60 years.
Margaret enjoyed traveling and sightseeing with Eldon and spending time with their family. She liked to cook and bake and always enjoyed hosting dinner parties. She had an outgoing and engaging personality and a wide circle of friends. Margaret was adventurous, interested in history and fascinated by learning about other people and places.
Memorials may be directed to First Congregational United Church of Christ in Margaret's memory.
