Margaret "Peg" Shannahan Wolf
Marion
We have lost a gem. Margaret "Peg" Shannahan Wolf passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022. Ted Wolf, her husband of 22 years affectionately called her by her given name, Margaret. Friends and family often called her Peg. Peg was the second of 10 siblings, and they were prone to tease her about another name she had. A high school teacher would refer to her as a gem and when younger siblings would pass through his class, he'd remind them of that. It was always a fun way to tease her through her entire adult life. She accepted the teasing with a laugh and a shrug because she knew deep down she deserved that title. Peg was a woman who always immersed herself in things that interested her. To the point where she became an expert in so many things that few could master. She was an avid reader and had more artistic talent than most. She loved to knit, crochet, decorate cakes, she was an amazing basket weaver, she enjoyed stamping, creating and designing her own greeting cards and she especially enjoyed making special birthday and Christmas cards for her family.
Peg was born Sept. 17, 1948, the daughter of Dorothy and Newman Shannahan. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, the class of 1966, and attended Iowa State University. She married the love of her life, Ted Wolf on Dec. 21, 1991. She met Ted while they both were employed at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Peg also had a part time job with the Kansas City Royals. Her family enjoyed the perks of that job because she showered them in team souvenirs. Peg and Ted made their home in Iowa after retiring from the Bank In Kansas City.
Peg is survived by her husband, Ted; siblings, Tom Shannahan, Sue Tate (Harry), Pam Shannahan, Lyn Shannahan, Rex Shannahan (Maggie), Mona Gilmore (Dave), Jackie Shannahan and her favorite, Scott Shannahan (Mickey). She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Dani Blin (Gary), B.J. Tate (Sarah), Dan Shannahan, Darcy Parks (Vince), Katy Shannahan (Cody) Trevor Shannahan, Justin Gilmore (JoAnna) and Shannan Fleming (Mike); and 19 grand-nieces and nephews. Also survived by her aunt, Phyllis Yearian; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kevin Shannahan; brother-in-law, Dave Gilmore; and many aunts and uncles.
The family will have a private gathering.
Memorials or donations can be directed to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
