Margaret J. Nichols, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Lod Nichols; two daughters, Diane (Ward) Utterback of Reedsburg, Wis., and Penny Wetzel of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Melanie (Mike) Fortin, Melinda Kadera and Melissa (Chris) Stumpff, all of Cedar Rapids, James Utterback of Madison, Wis., and Michael Utterback of Reedsburg, Wis.; three great-grandchildren, Ella and Eli Fortin and Stella Stumpff; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jean Loudon, Carol Knoll, Jane Knoll and Shirley Knoll; and many loving nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends, especially Winston Landt for whom she provided care to for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Orville C. Nichols; two grandsons, Dennis Kadera and Evan Wetzel; seven brothers, Orville Wayne, Lee, Richard, George, Robert, Herbert and Sam; and two sisters, Helena and Muriel.
Margaret was born April 12, 1924, in Webster City, to Orville and Bernice (Thompson) Knoll. She was united in marriage to Lod W. Nichols on Dec. 26, 1948, in Webster City, Iowa. Margaret was a homemaker who cared for her family. Margaret enjoyed airshows, fishing, playing board games, reading, crocheting and most importantly spending time with family. She will forever be remembered for her kind smile, humor and her love given to all especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A special thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their tender, loving, care given to Margaret.
