Margaret E. Mills, 102, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 4, 2016, after a short battle with pneumonia at the Woodlands at The Meth-Wick Community. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Louk. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Margaret is survived by her son, Dr. Richard (Diane) Mills of Tulsa, Okla.; her daughter, Maureen Clark of Cedar Rapids; four grandsons, Eric (Cindy) Mills of St. Louis, Mo., Kevin (Kim) Mills of Papua, Indonesia, Kolby Mills of Tulsa and Kevin Clark of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Willard Yates of Orlando, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle; a brother, Robert Yates; and a sister, Dorothy Nemec.
Margaret was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Stanley and Ella O'Day Yates. She was a graduate of McKinley High School and married Kyle Mills on May 18, 1936, in Rock Island, Ill. She was a homemaker and partner with her husband in Kyle Mills Towing and Crane Service before their retirement after 45 years in 1987. She was the oldest lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church and a member of the Cedar Rapids Area Theatre Organ Society. She was a renowned artist, excellent seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and traveling.
