MARGARET G. MEAD
Cedar Rapids
Margaret "Marg" Mead, 80, of Marco Island, Fla., died April 2, 2015, from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare degenerative brain disease, which she fought courageously for over five years.
She was born April 24, 1934, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Archie J. Moser and Amelia I. Hoppe Moser. She grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and graduated from Cedar Falls High School and then from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids as a registered nurse. She worked at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and St. Luke's Hospital.
Marg married Wayne Mead on Dec. 28, 1955, and they were together for 59 years.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne; daughter, Lynn Mead of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Julie Wells (Rich) of St. Louis Park, Minn.; daughter, Anne Brown (Jordan) of Frisco, Texas; grand-children, Brian and Erin Wells and Sophia and Jace Brown; and a brother, Alan Moser of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beverly.
Marg loved her caregiver, Gracie Rocha, because of her outstanding care and compassion.
Marg was a member of PEO Chapter JI in Cedar Rapids and Chapter GT on Marco Island. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and Wesley United Methodist Church, Marco Island. She enjoyed traveling with her family that included the entire United States and much of Europe and Hawaii.
Marg greated everyone with her infectious smile and laughter. She touched many hearts with her love and sense of humor. She was one of very few women to be a member of the Lionel Train Club and was proud of her collection of toy trains. Her large display could run nine trains at once.
A celebration of Marg's life will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 S. Barfield, Marco Island, Fla. A private burial will be in Garden of Memories at the church.
A memorial service will be held in Cedar Rapids in June, with details to be announced later.
Memorials may be sent to CURE PSP, 30 E. Padonia Rd., Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093; Wesley United Methodist Church, Marco Island, Fla.; or Camp Courageous of Iowa, P.O. Box 418, Monticello, IA 52310-0418.
