Margaret Ailene (Nyre) Mau, 104 years young, saw many amazing things in her life on Earth but nothing compares to the wonders of Heaven she saw for the first time on the afternoon of July 3, 2014. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Margaret was born Friday, Jan. 28, 1910, to John and Mary (Coenen) Nyre in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended old Washington High School and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College in 1929, with a degree in bookkeeping and secretarial skills. She married Chester William Mau on Dec. 23, 1932, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Margaret and Chet were blessed with two children: son, William Jon, and daughter, Marilyn Kay.
Margaret worked at the Cedar Rapids Gas Co. as a bookkeeper and accountant from 1930 to 1975. During retirement, Margaret volunteered at the Gift Shop in St. Luke's Hospital for over 15 years. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge on Wednesday afternoons and hosting many family events at her home.
Margaret is survived by her son, William (DorRene) Mau of Covington; her daughter, Marilyn (Ken) Lee of Shenandoah; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Chad and Shannon Lee, and four boys, Parker, Preston, Pierson and Patrick, all of West Des Moines, Brian and Erin Lee of Ankeny; Mark and Amanda Lee of West Des Moines; Richard and Tonya Morehouse of Houston, Texas, and three children, London, Scout and Sydney Morehouse; and Sara and Joseph Freese of Amarillo, Texas, and two boys, Skyler and Gavin Freese. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Mary Lou Roman and Floyd and Shirley Williams; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Chet (1977); and three sisters, Mary, Charlotte and Christina.
