MARGARET E. KACENA

Margaret E. Kacena, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-St.
Luke's Hospital. A visitation will be on Monday, June 4, 2018, from noon to 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018, at
1 p.m. following the visitation at the church. Graveside services will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery following the service at the church.
Margaret E. Ernst was born on May 10, 1925, on a farm near Atkins, the daughter of George and Theresa (Kollenkark) Ernst. She worked at LaPlant-Choate after graduation from Newhall. She married Robert C. Kacena on Nov. 30, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. She worked at Coulter Motor Company in Phoenix while Bob went to Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. They returned to Cedar Rapids and had three sons. She then worked in Cedar Rapids Food Service at Garfield for 25 years. Margaret was a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary Post 788, Reserve Officers Association League (ROAL) and Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge 251. She enjoyed knitting, was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan and loved spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Allen and Dean Ernst.
Left to cherish Margaret's memories are her children, Neil (Jennifer) Kacena, Jeff "JR" Kacena and Doug (Stephanie) Kacena; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Judy Ernst.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, 1400 Inspiration Pl. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404, in Margaret's name.
