MARGARET "DJ" JOHNSON
Cedar Rapids
Margaret Dianne "DJ" Johnson died Monday, July 13, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital after years of battling COPD. Funeral Mass: 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus, where Dianne was a faithful member for over 60 years. Private graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery the following day. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday after 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Dianne is survived by her totally devoted husband, Gene, who had been her caregiver through the past several difficult months. Her death was due to complications surrounding resolution of an A-V fistula. Gene never left her side until the end. They would have had 50 golden years in October 2015. Also left to remember her are loving daughter, Teresa (Teri) Conrad and her spouse, David; and three grandchildren, Marianna, Curtis and Robert Conrad, of Illinois; a special lady, Gayle Millard of Davenport; brothers, David Drew and Mike Drew and their families; Gene's children, Jan, Steve and Doug; many grandchildren and a great-grandson; and many fellow nurses and Master Gardners.
Born in Missouri in 1937 to Roy and Frances Drew, Dianne came to Iowa in 1955. On Oct. 9, 1965, Dianne and Gene were married. They enjoyed many years taking care of their close-knit family. Dianne's greatest joys in life were cooking, caring for others and making lasting memories with her family. Dianne was loved by all, feared by some and respected by all those who were lucky enough to have known her. Dianne was an RN at Mercy Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospital, where many patients and colleagues remember her as "DJ."
Dianne lived her life by two simple philosophies: Love one another and keep family close.
Dianne loved dogs and instead of flowers, she requested memorials go to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to a "no kill" animal shelter of your choice.
