MARGARET HELMOLD
Clarence
Margaret Helmold, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence with Pastor Tommi Boeder officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to service time at the church.
Margaret was born the daughter of Lee and Martha (McKenzie) Anderson on Sept. 7, 1921, on the family farm in rural Tipton. She married Herman Helmold on Aug. 8, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died Nov. 27, 2010.
Mrs. Helmold was a farmer's wife most of her life until they moved to Clarence in 1978. At the age of 52, she started working at the nursing home at various positions until her retirement at the age of 75.
The past six years she spent at the Clarence Senior Living complex and enjoyed the music programs and playing cards with her friends. But most of all she spent most of her days putting jigsaw puzzles together with her sidekick, Millie Mingst.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Janice Bock of Sebring, Fla., and Beverly Skladzien of Maquoketa; son, Allen (Deb) Helmold of Lowden; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; and a great friend, Millie Mingst.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; a brother; sons-in-law, Neil Bock and Robert Skladzien; and great-granddaughter, Alex Brown.
