MARGARET AVA GORDON GULICK

Margaret Ava Gordon Gulick, 94, died Sunday morning, March 6, 2016, at Virginia Gay Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Vinton. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton.
Margaret was born March 27, 1921, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to George and Rose (Mealhouse) Gordon and graduated from Vinton High School. On Dec. 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to Stuart Gulick in Grundy Center. Margaret worked as an administrative assistant at the law offices of Milroy, Milroy and Milroy while later being a hard-working farm wife and homemaker.
She was a member of the Garrison Methodist Church. As a farm wife, Margaret had the opportunity to feed many hired help great meals and continued her excellent cooking and baking skills for family and friends over the years. Many of her son's hunting and fishing friends enjoyed her chocolate chip cookies and fresh bread during and after their outings.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart of Vinton; her daughter, Barbara (William) Holden of Las Vegas, Nev.; her son, Kris (Deborah) Gulick of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Samantha) Gulick of North Liberty, Jacqui Gulick of Amana, Kaitlin Holden of Marion and Michael Holden of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Warren Gulick; and her sister-in-law, Dora Jean (Remington) Gordon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Etta Kunz, Hazel Wilburn, Lyla Hoon and Ilene Geiger; and five brothers, Earl "Bill," Lloyd "Hank," Gerald "Jack," Vernon "John" and James Gordon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Garrison Methodist Church in Margaret's honor.
