Margaret Ellis, 94, of Cold Spring, Minn., formerly of Marion, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion. Her nephew, Father Dan O'Hare, will officiate at her funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at St. Joseph Church in Marion. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Coggon.
Margaret was born May 15, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Terrance and Bridget (Kilroy) O'Hare. She graduated from St. Patrick's School in 1938 and Mercy School of Nursing in 1941. Upon completing her education, Margaret joined the Army Nurse Corps during World War II and served in England, France and Germany. She was discharged from Army service in 1946.
Margaret married Keith T. Ellis on May 9, 1946. Keith and Margaret owned and operated Ellis Implement in Coggon, Iowa, before their retirement in 1982. Keith and Margaret made their home in Coggon until 1993, when they moved to Marion. Margaret was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Marion and a former member of St. John's Church in Coggon. In 2006, Margaret moved to the Assumption Home in Cold Spring, Minn., to be near her son, Richard, and his family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband (in 2000); her daughter-in-law, Susan Ellis; her parents; and her siblings, Eileen McEnany, Lawrence O'Hare and Patrick O'Hare.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery and Esther Ellis of Texas, Richard and Lynda Ellis of Minnesota and Mark Ellis of Arizona. She is also survived by her dearly beloved seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
