Margaret Ellen Barta, 91, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Anamosa Care Center. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, with a 6 p.m. rosary at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Margaret was born Sept. 3, 1926, in rural Ely, Iowa, the daughter of Edward F. and Dora (Mackey) Hartl. She was united in marriage to Louis L. "Louie" Barta on Aug. 8, 1945. Margaret was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, CSA Lodge Prokop Velky 137 and "Pete's Fleas" Camping Club.
Margaret and Louie spent many winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. They made many friends there as well as through their camping club, "Pete's Fleas." Margaret enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Margaret and Louie worked on the farm side by side and even baked kolaches together. They were constant companions and are surely dancing the polka together again.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Diane Siegle of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Denise Novak Rhodes of Lisbon, Debra (Matt) Brei of Prior Lake, Minn., and Joe (Katie) Siegle of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Jessica Rhodes, Jakob Brei and Aaron and Sarah Siegle; sister, Dorothy Vislisel; and brother, Edward D. "Sonny" (Madonna) Hartl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Louie; infant son, David Louis Barta; daughter, Gloria Jean Barta-Graham; and sisters, Rose Barnett and Josephine Rozinek.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Margaret's memory.
