Margaret H. Brush, 101, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, at St. John's the 23rd Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 19, with a rosary recited at 4 p.m., at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A reception will be held in the church hall after the burial. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Michael Brush of Worland, Wyo., Mary Beth Gregory of Winterset and James (Pat) Brush of Fairfax; eight grandchildren, Erica Brown, Levi Brush, Seth (Tiffany) Brush, Caleb (Madison) Brush, Justin (Amy) Gregory, Lisa (Willie) Adams, Jeremy (Courtney) Brush and Tami Brush; 11 great-grandchildren, Carter, McCayde, Kinlynn, Hadley, Sophie, Olivia, Audrey, Braylon, Ella, Tyler and Colton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Diana Brush; grandson-in-law, Curtis Brown; brothers, Emil, Lester and Joseph Stodola; and sisters, Mary Kazimour, Catherine Stodola, Libbie Holms and Henrietta Martin.
Margaret was born June 10, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Amalia (Rejman) Stodola. She attended St. Ludmila's and St. Wenceslaus Catholic grade schools and then graduated from Grant Wood High School. Margaret and Donald Brush were united in marriage on Feb. 5, 1947, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church. She was a former member of St. Ludmila's, where she played the organ for 30 years and sang in the choir. She was also a former member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was most currently a member of St. John's the 23rd Catholic Church. Margaret played the organ for Masses, funerals and weddings. She loved playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and dancing.
