MARDELLA ELIZABETH HOOPMAN

Mardella Elizabeth Hoopman, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mardella Elizabeth Hoopman was born April 11, 1933, the daughter of George and Mabel (Meyer) Blumhagen, in Bloomfield Township, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Ronald Edward Hoopman on Sept. 2, 1951 in Decorah. She graduated from Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids and worked as a hairstylist for most of her life.
Mardella enjoyed sewing and cooking, and was known for her shepherd's pie. She loved traveling, especially enjoyed trips to Harlingen, Texas, and riding the Scenic Railway in Boone. Mardella was known for her kind and generous spirit. She loved cats and enjoyed helping with Toys for Tots. Mardella was a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Rudolph; a son, Paul Hoopman; two grandchildren, Christopher Lane and Keely Spina, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Loretta Bachelder of Decorah; brother, Loren Blumhagen of Council Bluffs; as well as many loving extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse, Ronald Hoopman, in 2012.
