MARDEL FLETCHER

Mardel M. Fletcher, 88, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton, with the Rev. Richard Okumu officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Wilton. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Faryl Fletcher, Mike Fletcher, Marilea Gradert, Anthony Fletcher, Gary Fletcher, Brandon Gradert, Anthony Fletcher II and Brady Wulf. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with a parish vigil and rosary service beginning at 3:30 p.m.
A memorial fund has been designated for Cedar Manor Nursing Home.

Mardel was born April 4, 1926, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Gustav and Ledo Frick Hering. Mardel was a 1944 graduate of the Durant High School and then graduated from Bussell's School of Cosmetology in Davenport. She worked as a beautician for three years and was then married to John Vance Fletcher on April 30, 1947, in Davenport. She and Vance farmed for many years until their retirement.
Mardel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton.
Mardel is survived by her daughter, Marilea (Mike) Gradert of Wilton; sons, Faryl (Sandi) Fletcher of LaVerne, Calif., Mike (Lorna) Fletcher of Tipton, Anthony (Linda) Fletcher of Colona, Ill., and Gary (Marcia) Fletcher of Muscatine; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Vance Fletcher (May 13, 2008); infant son, Joseph; and her sister, Edna Miller.
