Marcus Tschantz, 60, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with melanoma.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been
established.
Surviving are his wife, Pamela; two children, Tracy (Chad) Beitz, Hopkinton, and Tina (Aaron) Kurt, Ankeny; five grandchildren, Emma, Joellen, Cole, Justin and Jordyn; two siblings, Mike (Marcia) Tschantz and Marcia (Gary) Schwandt; his stepmother, Mary Tschantz; and his mother-in-law, Donna Haas and brother-in-law, Greg Haas, all of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marilyn; and his sister-in-law, Lynn Haas.
Marcus Tschantz was born July 9, 1954, at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of John and Dorothy Ortgies Tschantz. Marc graduated from Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1972. Marc married Pamela Haas on Aug. 3, 1974, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was employed at Energy Manufacturing for 41 years. He also farmed on the Tschantz family farm with his brother, Mike.
Marc was instrumental in organizing U.A.W. Local 1613 at Energy and served as the Local president for many years. He was an avid bowler. He bowled in Monticello, Cascade and Manchester on various teams, three of them being Johnnies Riverside, C.C. & Co. and Marks Renegades. He always enjoyed the little house tournaments. Marc was the park ranger at Johnnies Riverside Campground.
