Marcus Hansen, 70, of Iowa City, died peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City on Tuesday, July 15,
2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Iowa City. The family will greet friends Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City, where a parish wake service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The family kindly requests instead of flowers and plants, memorials be directed to the University of Iowa Children's Hos-pital.
Born Dec. 9, 1943, in Audubon, Iowa, the son of William and Esther (Marcussen) Hansen, he spent his childhood in Audubon and later graduated from Audubon High School. Marcus married Sue Kerwin on March 4, 1972, at St. Patrick's Church in Audubon.
He purchased and operated Gilbert Street Tap in Iowa City from 1976 to 1981. In 1978, Marcus started Hansen Asphalt in Iowa City which he remained involved in to the present day.
He is survived by his sons, Nic (Vikki) Hansen of Chicago and Jake (Holly) Hansen and Clint (Rebecca) Hansen, both of Iowa City; grandchildren, Evelyn, Henry, Ethan and Everett, a stepgranddaughter, Sophie; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and his wife, Sue (in 1997) died before him.
