Marcia "Mush" Diane Zapf, 67, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, Jan, 2, 2016, at home surrounded by family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer (glioblastoma). She remained her positive self to the very end. Her infectious smile and warmth touched all of those around her.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Steven Witt officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.

Mush was born Jan 7, 1948, in Washington, Iowa, to Cliff and Dorothy Swain. She grew up in Wellman, Iowa, and graduated from Mid Prairie High School in 1966. While attending Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, she met the love of her life, Thomas "Zip" Zapf, and they were married on March 15, 1968.
Mush and Zip moved to Iowa City in 1973, where she spent 33 years working for the 6th Judicial District Department of Corrections.
Mush cherished time with family and friends. Summers spent at their special island cabin in Canada brought her so much joy and the fondest memories.
The family would like to thank all of her friends for their caring support.
Mush is survived by her husband, Tom; son, Darin (Kim) Zapf; daughter, Amy (Bryan) Poggemiller; five grandchildren, Caleb, Kierra, Taya, Megan and Camryn; and two brothers, Lee (Debbie) and Gary (Claudia).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cliff and Dorothy.
