Marcella "Marcie" Eleanor Svestka Pernicka, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, at St. Jude's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Cha-pel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 5 p.m. parish vigil.
Marcella was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Spillville, the daughter of Fred and Frances (Strnad) Taylor. She was united in marriage to Leonard Svestka on Oct. 11, 1943, in Spillville. Leonard died Aug, 11, 1984.
She married Harold Pernicka on Nov. 26, 1996, in Cedar Rapids.
Marcie enjoyed bingo, gambling, going to "The Club" and spending time with her friends and family.
Marcie is survived by her three sons, Dennis (Terri) of Marion, Larry (Jane) of Van Horne and Gary (Nancy) of Galveston, Texas; a daughter, Sandy (Tom) Oakley of Shellsburg; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Norma (Don) Lensing and Alvin (Bea) Taylor, both of Protivin, and Kay (Joe) Schmidt of Sarasota, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leonard Svestka and Harold Pernicka; and a grandson, Nick Jasa.
