Marcella Margaret Reed, 98, of Washington, died Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Lathrop officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Beatty-Peterseim Funeral Home Facebook Page or YouTube Channel. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday at the Beatty Funeral Home, with family present from 5-7:00 PM and 10:00 AM till service time at St. James Church. Memorials in the name of Marcella Margaret Reed may be designated to St. James Catholic Church and Parkinson Association.
Marcella was born May 21, 1927, in Harper, IA, the daughter of Frank and Theresa (Highberger) Haupert. She attended Harper School and was united in marriage to Eugene P. Reed, November 26, 1954, at St. Elizabeth Church in Harper, IA.
She was a faithful member of the St. James Catholic Church. She volunteered for Catholic Daughters, Knights of Columbus Women, and was a 4-H leader. Marcella won volunteer of the year several times at Halcyon. She was a devoted housewife and helped around the farm. She enjoyed playing card games, puzzles, pinochle, and dancing. She was an avid gardener, loved her chickens, and her clowder of cats.
Survivors include her children, Phil (Rhonda) Reed of Washington, Joe Reed of Carter Lake, IA, and Ann Reed of Fairfield, IA; six grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene in 2008, daughter Mary Ellen Johnson in 2022, brother Mark, sister Irene and an infant stillborn sister.
