Maloney, Zachary Michael
Zachary Michael Maloney, 18, of Hiawatha, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his father, Shawn Maloney and wife Sue Grecian of Riverside; mother, Andrea Fernandez-Flanagan and husband Don of Hiawatha; sisters, Maria Stover-Hinshaw and husband Mark of Cedar Rapids, Sabrina Stover and partner Greg Herring of Marion and Shelley Marsden and husband Chad of Cedar Rapids; brother, Nick Maloney of Riverside; stepbrother, Zach Popham; stepsister, Bre Popham; maternal grandparents, Manuel Fernandez and Isabel Vigueria; paternal grandparents, Michael and Joanne Maloney; nieces and nephews, Paris, London, Nico, Chaise, Cadence, Jetta and Kortlyn; aunts and uncles, Shem Fernandez, Greg Fernandez, Manuel Fernandez, Adrienne Sorrell, Michelle Montoya, Candy Claypole and Susie Maloney; closest cousins, Gabriel Fernandez, Gabe Llanes, Ashley Llanes, Sophia Fernandez and many other cousins; girlfriend, Zalynda Ohrt of Cedar Rapids; and best friends, Raysha Stanfield, Mitch Price, Ethan Cox, Justin Gill, Roman Schultz and DeAnn Jones.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, Steven Fernandez; and great-grandmother, Cruz B. Chavez.
Nicknamed Boo at birth by his three sisters and Zakk by his closest friends, he was born Jan. 16, 1993, the son of Shawn Maloney and Andrea Fernandez, in Joplin, Mo. He worked for All-Clear and also did roofing construction.
Zakk played baseball for Prairie and Jane Boyd, football for Prairie and tennis for Wilson. He enjoyed playing guitar, drawing, music, and especially skateboarding with his homies. Zakk was a very social person who was the life of the party and everyone's best friend.
