Malmer, Constance Clark Petran
Constance Clark Petran Malmer of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Christ Church Presbyterian, 2000 First Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Tim Dyck. Memorial visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Private family inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Connie is survived by daughters, Paula of Cedar Rapids and Leigh Stewart and husband Paul, of Cottage Grove, Minn.; sons, Clark, and wife Mary of Eldridge, and Mark and wife Kim, of Ephrata, Pa.; grandchildren, Alan, Shannah, Jill, Lucas, Matthew, Margeau, Haylay, Teresita, Isaac and Jerrad; great-grandchildren, Maddy, Juliet, Nathaniel, Hannah, Jonas, Julia, Bradley, Ariel, Chase, Hunter, Braedin, Casey and Lily; brother, Donald W. Petran and wife Mary Ann; brother-in-law, Jack Mimmack; and five nephews and nieces.
Her husband of 56 years, Alvin J. (Joe) Malmer Jr.; her parents; and her sister, Barbara P. Mimmack, preceded her in death.
Connie was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Paul Henry Petran and Mae Kohlmeyer Petran. After growing up on the family farm, she attended Carleton College and Iowa State College. She married Joe Malmer on Nov. 11, 1944 in Albert Lea. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1953.
Connie was a member of Christ Church Presbyterian, where she taught Sunday school and served as an elder. She volunteered in a variety of school and youth activities. Connie was a 68 year member of P. E. O, most of which was with Chapter KK. She was office manager and receptionist for Julius Pietrzak, M.D. for 23 years.
Connie enjoyed reading, gardening, needlework, knitting, word puzzles, music of the Big Band Era and R&B. She loved her family and treasured her friends.
Her family and others will miss her kindness, sense of humor, dedication to family and sparkling blue eyes.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials preferred to Christ Church, Presbyterian, 2000 First Ave NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 5245.
