Malcom Myron Mayo, 87, of Tama, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Christine Pauley officiating. Interment will follow at Sheridan Cemetery in rural Malcom. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Malcom was born July 11, 1928, in Canova, S.D., the son of Herbert and Ida (Chilton) Mayo. He graduated from Blakesburg Iowa High School in 1947. Malcom served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean conflict. On July 8, 1953, he married Marilyn Dee. Together they had four children. She passed away on Feb. 4, 1990.
On March 9, 1991, he married Helen Anthony Clayton. She passed away on June 28, 2012. Malcom farmed for many years and also drove school bus for the Grinnell School District. He also worked at Farmhand in Grinnell and Toledo Tractor Repair retiring from there when it was USS Repair. His work was his hobby but he also enjoyed working on cars and tractors.
Survivors include four children, Kenneth Mayo (Donna Speicher) of Tama, Karen Plum of Bettendorf, Linda (Bill) Heine of Osprey, Fla., and Donna (Chris) Round of Rochester, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Laura (Clay) Edwards, Daniel (Claire) Mayo, Joshua Heine, Katie Heine, Max Heine, Jessica Round, Allison Round and Diana Plum; three great-grandchildren, Lily and Griffin Mayo and baby girl Edwards; and one brother, Calvin Mayo of Albia. Malcom was also a loving stepfather and grandfather to Helen's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives, Marilyn and Helen; two sisters, Beth Mayo and Helen Tally; one brother, Louis Mayo; and one sister-in-law, Gladys Mayo.
