Maire, George Richard
George Richard Maire, 71, of The Villages, Fla., formerly of Monticello, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, after a lengthy illness. His body will be cremated and a memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. First St., Ankeny. Visitation will be one hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa.
George was born July 1, 1938, in Monticello, Iowa. He served his country as a U.S. Marine and worked for Hy-Vee for 29 years. After retiring in 1992, he and his wife, Marlene moved to Florida, most recently living in the Villages. George was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed golfing and playing poker.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marlene; sons, Martin (Cindy) Maire, Joe (Lori) Maire and Jeffrey (Margie) Maire; daughter, Susan (Stanley) Horner; 10 grandchildren; and brothers, Thomas Maire and Marge, and Stanley Maire and Mary Helen.
