Maiers, Malinda (Heiderscheit)
Malinda (Heiderscheit) Maiers, 94, of Garnavillo, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born the daughter of Nicholas and Emma (Meyers) Heiderscheit on Feb. 12, 1918, in Holy Cross Iowa.
Malinda received her education from St. Mary's School in Guttenberg. On Oct. 3, 1945, Malinda married Leonard Maiers at St. Mary's in Guttenberg. Together they were blessed with three children. For many years Malinda worked side by side with her husband at the Kist Bottling Co. in Garnavillo, all the while making a home for her family. She was a long time member of St. Joseph Church in Garnavillo. She was the first director of Religious Education for over 20 years at St. Joseph. Malinda was a prayer affiliate out of the La Crosse, Wisconsin Chapter. She was a lector at church, member of the St. Joseph choir, St. Joseph Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Daughters Association. Malinda enjoyed spending time reading, sewing, quilting and Malinda was known to live in her kitchen. She was able to make a plate for anyone who stopped by her home at anytime.
Malinda will be forever loved and cherished by her three children, LeAnn (Ron L.) Bries, Lorna Moser and Larry Maiers; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Jean Langel; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Cyril and Merlin Heiderscheit.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, and one hour before service Friday at church. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Garnavillo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be sent to Iowa Hospice for all their care, compassion and support during the final days of Malinda's journey on earth.
