Mahraun, Robert W. 'Bob'
Robert W. “Bob” Mahraun, 63, of 1634 Bianca Dr., Dubuque, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at 4:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at home from complications after a battle with brain cancer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Grandview United Methodist Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Tom C. Shinkle officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Muscatine, Iowa. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church until time of services. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born March 4, 1948, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Robert and Lucille (Windman) Mahraun. He graduated from Muscatine High School and Community College. He received his undergraduate degree at UNI in accounting and his master's at the University of Iowa in finance. He worked as a controller accountant for Cryovac in Cedar Rapids for many years, Huntsman in Seattle and Color-Box/Georgia Pacific in Dubuque. He also worked with United Way and Rails to Trails in Cedar Rapids.
He married Barbara Helen Plattenburger on June 12, 1970; she passed away in September 2009. On Jan. 11, 1997, she married Cheryl D. Root.
He liked working with the youth at Grandview United Methodist Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan cheering on No. 17 Matt Kenseth and attending many races. He loved to read and attend book clubs and also liked playing Euchre at the Eagles Club.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cheryl; a son, Kevin (Kathy) Mahraun of Port Byron, Ill.; a daughter, Janine (partner Missy Sites) Mahraun of Fredrick, Md.; a grandson, Kameron Mahraun, whose parents, Kevin and Kathy Mahraun are expecting a daughter in November; his brother, Donald Mahraun, sister-in-law, Jan Mahraun; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, Jim Podgorski and Larry Root.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his first wife, Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hope Lodge, 750 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City, IA 52242.
