Magdalena “Leni” Erna Richardt, 83, of Chelsea, Iowa, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Compass Memorial HealthCare, Marengo, Iowa,
Magdalena was born May 25, 1939, to Berthold and Magdalena (Miller) Schneider in Forst, Germany, where she attended school. Following school, she worked in manufacturing of paper products and for Singer sewing machine company. On Oct. 4, 1963, Leni married Wendelin Richardt in Bruschal, Germany. In 1964, the couple moved to the United States for more opportunities. They lived in Cedar Rapids until purchasing their farm in rural Chelsea in the 1990s.
Leni enjoyed ceramics, cooking, crocheting, hunting with Wendelin and being a member of the Izaak Walton League in Cedar Rapids. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wendelin of Chelsea; sons, Mike (Kim) of Chelsea and Pete (Tami) of Walford; four grandchildren, Zach, Nichole, Sydney (Dylan) and Noah; and sister, Maria Hintermaier of Germany.
Leni is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter Schneider.
Family would like to thank Jessica Rust and Kailynda Davis for their compassionate care through Essence of Life Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, with Father Michael McAndrew, and Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial will take place at National Cemetery, Vining, Iowa. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, with vigil service at 7 p.m.
