Maestre, Mary Carmen
Mary Carmen Maestre, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Kress; a grandson, Chet Kress and his wife, Mickky; and a great-grandson, Brady, all of Cedar Rapids.
Mary Carmen was born June 22, 1920, in West Branch, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Maria (Del Rufuguy) Murillo. In 1939, she married Perfecto Carlos Maestre in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1997. She worked as a quality control inspector for Rockwell Collins for many years.
Mary Carmen was an avid book reader, enjoyed tending to her garden, and was very gifted in sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul Joseph; and three brothers, Augustine, Fidel and Philip.
