Our beloved wife and mother, Mae Irene Arthur, 82, of Marion and formerly of Cedar Rapids, went to her heavenly home Monday, March 7, 2016, at Suncoast Hospice, Palm Harbor, Fla., following a brief illness. Visitation will start at 10 and funeral services will follow at 11 Saturday morning, March 12, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, with interment in Norwich Cemetery, Martelle. Pastor Daryl Martin will officiate at the services.

Surviving are her husband, Max; four children, Nancy (John) Horak, Palm Harbor, Fla., Maria (Daryl) Martin, Marion, David (Dina) Arthur, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kenneth (Jan) Arthur, Tampa, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, June Smothers, Martelle, and Dixie Morsch, Mesa, Ariz.; and Delmar Maiden, Solon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Merle.
Mae Irene Maiden was born April 7, 1933, in Martelle, Iowa, the daughter of Jasper Ira and Irma Simmons Maiden. Irene received her education in Martelle schools, where she graduated in 1950. Irene married Max Arthur on Aug. 27, 1950, at Martelle Methodist Church. The couple lived in Dubuque, Anamosa and Cedar Rapids before moving to Marion, where they have lived the past 48 years.
Irene was employed at Collins Radio until 1989 when she retired. Since 1953, she had been a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and attended Layfette Salem Evangelical Church in Alburnett.
She loved to quilt and crochet and made many beautiful items for her family members. Irene was an excellent cook and kept a lovely garden. She loved to fish and play bingo and to care for her babies.
