Mae Elliott Owen Gardner, 77, of Walker, passed away with her family and friends by her side on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Walker Bible Church. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include her husband, Grant Gardner of Walker; son, Dwight (Marianne) Owen of Sioux City; grandchildren, Kendra (Joe) Logan, Alan Barwick, Drew Barwick and Skyler Bauer; great-grandchildren, Evan and Landon Logan; brother, Russell (Sylvia) Elliott; sister, Linda (James) Tingen; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Charlie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Richard Owen; sisters, Foy Breedlove and Margaret Cole; and niece, Diane Keith.
Mae was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Berea, N.C., daughter of Bailey and Melissa (Vaughn) Elliott. She married Grant Gardner in 1970 at Stem Methodist Church, Stem, N.C. Mae worked for 22 years as a surgical technician/central supply at John Umstead Hospital, Butner, N.C. She also was an administrator at Kingston Hill in Cedar Rapids for many years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
