Madonna “Donna” Frances Manternach, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, surrounded by her family, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Petersburg, the daughter of John and Melania (Bruggeman) Knipper. Donna attended school in Petersburg.
On Sept. 5, 1957, Donna was united in marriage to Gerald Manternach at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union. Together they farmed in Prairie Township. The couple retired in February 1994 and moved to Manchester.
Donna was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and quilting. Donna volunteered at the Camp Courageous Garage Sale and the St. Mary School Lunch Program. She liked playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. Donna especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include six children, Chris (Sharon) Manternach of Sand Springs, Dale (Shirley) Manternach of Manchester, Barb (Steve) Moorman of Manchester, Ann (Rod) Nurre of Greeley, Sara (Harold) Mattice of Manchester and Cindy (Mike) Gudenkauf of Farley; 15 grandchildren, Byron (Shelley) Manternach, Erica (Colman) Silbernagel, Jacob (Addie) Manternach, Brett Manternach, Tyler Manternach, Jenna Manternach, Katie (Scott) Gwinn, Jared Moorman, Kristi Moorman, Renee Nurre, Garrett (Lauren) Mattice, Ellen (Michael Klostermann) Mattice, Maria Gudenkauf, Nicole Gudenkauf and Mitchell Gudenkauf; nine great-grandchildren, Warren, Emery, Lincoln, Winston, Remlie, Tucker, Laura, Kyle and Eric; one brother, Paul (Delaine) Knipper of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald Manternach in 2008; a son, Gerald John in infancy; and siblings, Virgil (Gladys) Knipper, Anita (Albin) Wulfekuhle, Nellie (Richard) Steffen, and Gladys (Harold) Heyer.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.
Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.
