Madeson, Dale
Dale Madeson died Aug. 29, 2013.
He was an original character, born in Belle Plaine, Iowa on June 10, 1923, to Ollie and Ella Madeson. In high school years, he was a Golden Gloves boxer who went on to the University of Iowa. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II, earning his flight wings as a PBY Catalina Sea Rescue pilot for both the Army and the Navy. Dale brought his proudest and most poignant service memories to life when describing his flight over the site of the Armistice with the Allied Fleet in Tokyo Bay. We appreciate his service and dedication.
When out of the service in 1949, Dale fell in love with Marna Jean Walters. They were married Sept. 28, 1949, in Cedar Rapids and were married over 62 years until Marna's death in 2012. Anyone in the family path of Dale knew, without many words, that they were both adored and secure.
Also in 1949, Dale and his longtime business partner, Bob Rice, bought the City Gas Co. They are credited with bringing natural gas to Antigo, Wis., and the surrounding communities since 1960. More importantly, he co-founded a company that has provided for the town, and has extended his family of friends in ways he couldn't have imagined.
In earlier days his tracks could be found in the Lions and Elks Clubs. He also played countless rounds at Bass Lake Country Club's golf course. In later years, his time was spent supporting his grandkids.
Dale will be missed and is survived by his oldest son, Rod (Diane) Madeson of Antigo, Wis., and their children, Megan and Rachel (partner Josh); his younger son, Rick (Cheryl) Madeson of Colorado, and his children, Cory and Jessie; and a brother, Cleo Madeson.
We thank Dale for SO SO many things, but above all, his loyalty to his wife, family and friends.
A funeral service was held at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home in Antigo, Wis. Burial, with military honors, took place at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.
