Machacek, Bonnie B.
Bonnie B. Machacek, 90, of rural Winthrop, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at the Buchanan County Health Center following a short illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Independence, with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home in Independence.
Mrs. Machacek is survived by her husband of 69 years, Malvin; two sons, David (Marcia) Machacek of Alburnett and Richard (Cheryl) Machacek of Winthrop; four grandchildren, Kristin (Ryan) Baker of St. Augustine, Fla., Stephanie (Bobby) Ascher of Marion, Jennifer Machacek of Fort Worth, Texas, and Andrew Machacek of Winthrop; and three great-grandchildren, Brennan Baker, Connor Baker and Dylan Ascher.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Graydon Reed.
She was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Guy Adelbert and Grace Blanche (Taylor) Reed. She graduated from high school in Quasqueton with the class of 1936 and received her teaching certification from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1938. She taught in the Buchanan County country schools for six years. On Aug. 21, 1940, she and Malvin Paul Machacek were married in Waterloo. They farmed and raised their family near Winthrop.
