Maas, Charlotte R.
Charlotte R. Maas, 89, of Iowa City, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at the Solon Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to the Charlotte Maas Educational Fund for her great grandchildren.
Charlotte was born July 22, 1923, in Dallas Center, Iowa, the daughter of Burdette and Elsie Schultz Smith. She was raised on a farm near Adel and attended the Iowa Business College in Des Moines. On Aug. 5, 1945, she married Charles Maas. They lived in the Brighton area for seven years before moving to Iowa City in 1963. Charlotte had been residing at Walden Place.
Charlotte was the bookkeeper for City Carton for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Brighton Chapter #486 Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed playing solitaire on her computer.
Survivors include her two sons, Burdette “Bud” (Julie) Maas of Montezuma and C. Wayne Maas of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Anthony (Holly) Maas, Terresa Maas and Terri Joanne Maas; two great-grandchildren, Hudson Nicole Maas and Ryan Maas; her brother, Burdette “Bud' Smith of Adel; and her sister, Shirley (Norm) Rundel of Grand Junction, Iowa.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; her son, Gary; her sister, Beverly Hicks; and an infant sister.
