M. Charline (LaKose) Nicklas was born March 23, 1932, to Charles and Verla (Gant) LaKose and died September 13, 2025. Per Charline’s wishes there will be no service.
She grew up on her parents’ farm and graduated from Guernsey High School. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1950. Charline was married to Frederick Nicklas for 58 years and had two sons, Gary and Russell Nicklas, and a chosen daughter, Marty Norton. Charline was in retail for 40-plus years including Newman’s, working up to a very successful buyer at Armstrong’s, and when Armstrong’s closed, she worked at Smulekoff’s for many years.
She is survived by five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Maggie) LaKose; sister, Susan Hepker; very special friends, Don and Marty Norton, Aaron and Jessie O’Kane, and Peggy Erceg; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; sons, Gary and Russell; parents; sisters, Irene and Valetta; brothers, Vernon and Dean.
