M. Barbara Wagner, 94, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Briarwood Health Care Center. Visitation will be held from 10-12 PM, Saturday, December 21, 2024 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 PM at church. Following Mass there will be a burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School or The Regina Foundation.
Barbara was born on September 15, 1930 in Des Moines, IA the daughter of D.C. and Margaret (Schwertley) Nolan. She attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated from City High School in 1948. Barbara graduated from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN in 1952 with a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Denver, CO schools. Barbara was married to Frank J. Wagner in Iowa City in 1955. They have 5 children together.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Frank Wagner; five children, Lisa (David) Jewell of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Frank Wagner of West Liberty, IA, Maria (Ashwin) Joshi of St. Louis, MO, George (Jennifer) Wagner of Iowa City, IA and Louise Wagner (Bruce Clark) of Brooklyn, NY; ten grandchildren, Luke (Erin) Jewell, Ben (Tara) Jewell, Natalie (Mike) Bales, Fritz (Madi) Wagner, Cliff (Fiancé Victoria) Wagner, Audrey Wagner, Louisa Wagner, Lucy Wagner, Sophia Wagner, and Camilla Wagner; nine great-grandchildren, Violet, Henry, Evelyn, Vera, Cora, Eloise, Felix, Cecilia, and Fiona; one brother, Richard J. Nolan of Cape Coral, FL; and many extended family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Betty Nolan, Daniel Nolan, John Nolan, Katherine Calacci, Frances Kensinger, and Peggy Nolan.
