Lyons, Ruth B.
Ruth B. Lyons, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with the Rev. Clark E. Frederick officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave. Vinton, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Ruth was born March 11, 1923, in Vinton, to Henry and Mabel (McIntyre) Alpers. On March 4, 1944, she was united in marriage to James Howard Lyons at Columbus, Miss. James preceded her in death in 1991.
Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, where she enjoyed membership in Mission Circle and Fireside Club. She attended Senior Dining, enjoyed playing cards, and loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita (Jack) Staley of Amarillo, Texas, Trudy (Jerry) Schwarting of Vinton and Coleen Stull of Belle Plaine; her stepdaughter, Gayle (Ken) Futch of Leesburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Harold (Dorothy) Alpers of Bettendorf and Russell Alpers of Palm Beach, Fla.; and her sisters, Mae (Don) Wilhelmi of Atkins and Joann (Orville) Schrage of Vinton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Doug Lyons; three brothers and two sisters.
