Lyon, Robert B.
Robert B. Lyon, 84, of Center Junction, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa after declining health. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at First Presbyterian Church in Center Junction, with Pastor Jean Bruinsma and the Rev. Al Polito officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in North Madison Pioneer Cemetery, rural Center Junction.
Robert Bruce Lyon was born Oct. 30, 1927, at Oxford Junction, the son of Edgar and Gladys (Clark) Lyon. He attended schools in Linn and Jones counties. On Aug. 10, 1948, he married Bonnie Hinrichsen at First Presbyterian Church, Center Junction. They lived their married life
in Center Junction until he entered the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello on Dec. 30, 2010.
He worked for Kennedy and Walter's Lumber companies for 41 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Center Junction, having served as a trustee of the church. He was a volunteer fireman on the Center Junction Fire Department. He enjoyed carpenter work, gardening, fishing, hunting, and especially feeding and watching the birds.
Robert is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of 63 years;
three daughters, Anita (Roger) Benedict of Monticello,
Sandra Lyon and Lou Ann (Robert) Gravel of Center Junction; five grandchildren, Rachel (Jeremy) Shover, Rodney (Theresa) Gravel, Thomas (Melissa) Benedict, Sarah (Andy Bradley) Benedict and Jacob (Chelsea) Gravel; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Darwin Lyon of Maquoketa;
three sisters, Elaine Husmann of Mechanicsville, Doris (Dean) Tenley of Stanwood, and Patricia (George) Zirkelbach of Olin;
two sisters-in-law, Pat Lyon of Wyoming and Phyllis Lyon of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Edgar and Gladys; two sisters, Margaret Pegariek and Norma Tenley; and two brothers, Eugene and Kenneth.
Memorials are preferred.
