Lynne Marie Rigel, 66, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at her home following a sudden illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, Countryside Vineyard Church. Burial: Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories and one hour before the service Thursday at the church.

Lynne Marie Rigel was born Aug. 27, 1949, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Kimbal and Shirley (Dunlap) Gates. She graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School and later graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in teaching. Lynne was an English teacher at Nesco in Zearing. She was married to Jim Lux. They later divorced. Lynne was united in marriage to Dennis Rigel, on March 4, 1983, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale. She worked as an administrative assistant until she managed their horse boarding stable, "D-Bar-D" Stables. Lynne was an avid reader and loved flowers, nature, horses and coloring. She collected Painted Ponies.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Lynne is survived by her mother, Shirley Gates of Hopkinton; husband, Dennis of Waterloo; a son, Christopher Lux of Waterloo; three stepsons, Chris (Patty) Rigel of Lawler, Matthew (Deborah) Rigel of Traer and Tracey (Kara) Rigel of Waterloo; a daughter, Lesley (Luke) Langdale of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Michelle) Gates of Dubuque and Gary (Cheryl) Gates of Hopkinton; a sister, the Rev. Kim Gates of Waukon; and a very special cousin and friend, Peg (Larry) Sheppard.
