Lynn, Joseph 'Joe'
Joseph “Joe” Lynn, 63, of North Liberty, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 1, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., in Coralville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Ave., Coralville, with the Rev. Walter Helms officiating. Following a luncheon at the church, a 1:30 p.m. committal service will be held at the Lone Tree Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Joe Lynn Memorial Fund.
Joe was born Oct. 23, 1948, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Gladys (Beach) Lynn, and was baptized at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. Joe was raised on various farms north of Waterloo and graduated from Orange High School. Following graduation, he attended college in Warrensburg, Mo., for Industrial Arts. On Dec. 26, 1970, Joe married Dorothy Hotz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree. After graduating from college, he taught in Lake Mills before finishing his career in 2006 at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
Staying busy during his “retirement,” Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandson, Nathan. He also enjoyed biking (which included 25 RAGBRAI trips), camping, bird-watching, completing projects around the house and tinkering with cars.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of North Liberty; and their three children: Debra (Jeremy) Neppl, and their son, Nathan of Ankeny; Joe (Ashley) of West Des Moines; and Barb (Dawn Cooksley) of North Liberty; four siblings, Frances Moore of Cedar Rapids, Connie Lynn of Castle Rock, Colo., Mike (Valerie) Lynn of Houston, Texas and Laura Lynn of Vail, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Mike Moore.
