Lyman, Hubert 'Bud'
Hubert “Bud” Lyman, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died at home, Sunday, March 28, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Donald Klein. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors. A vigil service will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years and childhood sweetheart, Dode; sons, Chuck (Isel) Lyman of Farjado, Puerto Rico and Gary (Bronwyn) Lyman of Cebolla, N.M.; grandchildren, Joshua (Anjolene) Lyman, Jessi (Tim) Gerak, Joanne (Duffy) Snell, Jennifer (Jaime) Giraud and Kyle (Larissa) Lyman; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and Pete Lyman.
Bud was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Cedar Rapids to Ray and Esther Lyman. Bud entered the United States Army in 1943 and served in the South Pacific where he earned two Bronze Stars. He was a part of the liberation in the Philippines. He married Dorothy “Dode” Funkey on Jan. 14, 1946, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a manager at Kings Concrete for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post 5 and St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Bud will be remembered as a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a true hero to his family – an example of integrity to all who knew him. Bud was known as “Uncle Trouble” by some of his nieces and nephews. In his spare time, Bud liked to boat and golf.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Camp Courageous, or Hospice of Mercy.
The family would like to thank Chelsea, Lyn, Cindy, Courtney, Sally, Kramer, and Shirley for the extremely special care given to Bud, as well as Dr. Anne Voigts, Dr. David Cowden, and Dr. Todd Noreuil.
