Lyle Dean Williams, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died following a short illness on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home by Penny Ackerman. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Private burial will take place at Crawfordsville Cemetery.
Lyle is survived by his two daughters, Tammy (Steve) Girling of Hiawatha and Tricia (Clark) Brown of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Mariah and Derek Girling of Waterloo and Hailey Voyek of Cedar Rapids; brother, Larry Williams of Port Isabel, Texas; sister-in-law, Nancy (Jim) Behrends of Chappell, Neb.; niece, Kim Behrends Buckendahl of Valentine, Neb.; and nephew, Matt (Marie) Behrends of Cheyenne, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; parents; and brother, Donald Williams.
Lyle was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Crawfordsville, the son of Russel and Opal McGuire Williams and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1957. On Nov. 29, 1964, Lyle married Karen Rhea in Crawfordsville. Lyle worked as barber and at John Deere as a fire inspector for over 30 years. After his retirement, he mowed Byrnes Golf Course in Waterloo and Ellis Golf Course in Cedar Rapids.
Lyle enjoyed playing golf and fishing. Lyle and Karen were avid campers, squares dancers and Iowa Hawkeye Football and Basketball fans. They enjoyed riding their motorcycle and bicycles together. Lyle participated in several RAGBRAI and John Deere Crappie Tournaments at Rathburn Lake with his son-in-law, Clark.
