Lyle W. "Willy" Williams, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, under hospice care at St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Private family burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Lyle Wayne Williams was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Vinton, the son of Zina Carl Williams and Hazel Marie Hunt Williams. He attended school in Vinton and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On April 29, 1960, he married Mary Lundahl in Vinton. Willy was a mechanic for Utterback Ford, Ervin Motor and Ron's Conoco, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Vinton American Legion Post 57. Willy enjoyed socializing with his many friends and working in his yard in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary, of Vinton; stepson, Gregg (Edy) Albert, Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Harley (Edith) Williams, La Porte City; and several nieces and nephews.
Willy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett and Bob Williams; and sister, Maxine Buchan.
A memorial fund has been established.
