Lyle Wayne Sparrgrove, 84, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz. A private family burial is planned at Phoenix Memorial Park.
Survivors include a son, Craig of Phoenix; brother, Dale of Anamosa; grandchildren, Kyle, Shannon and Brody Sparrgrove of Arizona; and local nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anne; daughter, Vickie; his parents; brother, Kenneth; a sister, Eleanor; and great-nephew, Tanner Wymer.
Lyle was born June 24, 1932, in Lamont, Iowa, to Sydney and Florence (Sankey) Sparrgrove. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean conflict. He married Anne Rogers of Oelwein in 1956. He worked as a pipe fitter and welder. He was a member of the local Plumbers and Pipe Fitters unions in Iowa, Arizona and California, as well as belonging to the Masonic brotherhood.
