Lyle D. Root, 79, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following medical complications.
A private family service will be held at a later date, with burial to take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be made at www.hrabakfuneralhome.

Lyle was born Nov. 20, 1938, to Sidney and Zada (Fisher) Root in Belle Plaine, Iowa. As a child, he went to rural country school and later attended the Belle Plaine School. Following school, he began to help his family on the farm. Lyle met Reta Seeley at the Armar Ballroom in Cedar Rapids and on Sept. 12, 1970, the two were married at the Little Flock Church in Appanoose County. Together the couple lived near Belle Plaine, where they farmed and raised their children.
Lyle's hobbies were farming and farming. He was a member of the Winslow Cemetery Board, an honorary member of the Belle Plaine FFA Chapter and a dedicated follower of the Lincoln Cafe Coffee Club.
He is survived by his wife, Reta of Belle Plaine; son, Eric (Sara) Root of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Sadie and Kathryn; brother, Marvin (Sylvia) Root of Hartwick; sister, Marge Nett of Mesa, Ariz.; special nieces and nephews, Scott (Paige) Nett of Mesa, Ariz., Cindy Root of Victor and Marcy Morrow of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and many more loving family and friends
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Chad Root.
