VINTON: Lyle Lee Bolton, 82 of Vinton, died on March 13th at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha from advanced esophageal cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton with Pastor Anne Williams officiating. Military rites will follow the service. Interment will be held at the Mount Auburn Cemetery following the luncheon. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time, also at the church.
Lyle was born on August 2,1941 at his home north of Mount Auburn to Charles (who then died when Lyle was only 18 months old) and Elsie Studebaker Bolton. He joined his siblings, William, Gerald, Jean, and Richard.
He graduated in 1960 from Washington High School in Vinton, and was then drafted into the US Army in 1963. Lyle was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton.
Lyle is the father to Troy, Traci, Trisha, and Elizabeth. He married Elaine Wilson on November 6, 1987, and they were never a day apart for 36 years.
Lyle began working as a teenager farming for Jim Kirk, and continued that work part time for 40 years. Lyle also worked 30 years for the Benton County Secondary Roads Department as a heavy-duty machine operator. After his retirement from Benton County, he worked for Kurt's Enterprises until his health declined. He loved all of his jobs throughout the years.
Lyle is survived by his wife, children, daughter-in-law, Ann Bolton, and son-in-law, Jason Mensen, his loving grandchildren Abigail, Meghan, Matthew (Nichole Stephens), Emma Ohrt, and Landry Groenenboom, as well as his brother-in-law, Chuck (Pam) Wilson, and sisters-in-law, Jan Ozias and Penny Wilson, and by all of his loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law, Doug Ozias and Jim Wilson.
Lyle loved telling stories of his childhood in Mount Auburn, as well as of his days riding his motorcycle and getting into absolute shenanigans.
Lyle's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff at Hospice of Mercy.
