Lyle Allen Holtz, 76, of Chelsea, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at his home in rural Chelsea. A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo with Pastor John Christianson officiating. A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Lyle was born on June 1, 1942, in Keystone, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Marcella (Fett) Holtz.

He graduated from Garrison High School.

On May 1, 1967, he was united in marriage to Alice Anderson in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Lyle farmed in Benton County, and they moved to Tama County in 1983. In 1994, they moved to their current home near Chelsea. He also worked at the Tama and Belle Plaine sale barns. Lyle was a member of Christ UMC in Toledo, Farm Bureau and American Angus Association, and a former member of the Benton County Cattleman. Farming was his joy in life. Lyle loved tractors and horses, and fed a lot of cattle. He also had a cow/calf operation when they moved to Tama County.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Alice Holtz of Chelsea; three children, Kim Lucky (Doug Bertrand) of Clinton, Greg (Louise) Holtz of Cedar Rapids and Kim Rouzer of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Jason Lucky, Justin (Kendra) Lucky, Jared (Tara) Lucky, Maxwell (Sara) Holtz and Katheryn Holtz; one brother, Duane (Bev) Holtz of Vinton; sisters-in-law, Joyce Melsha of Solon and Nancy Ladehoff of Marshalltown; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion, Jake (the dog).

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Gary Holtz; and one sister, Marlys Holtz.

Memorials may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo.
